['tʃɔktɔː], nordamerikanischer Indianerstamm der Muskogee-Sprachfamilie, 1833 aus seiner Heimat in Südostmississippi vertrieben, nachdem er (1830) den größten Teil seines Landes für den Baumwollanbau an die Weißen hatte abtreten müssen. Heute bekennen sich etwa 90 000 als Choctaw. Sie leben als Farmer in Mississippi und Louisiana.
